Ronnie James Dio I had the opportunity to spend some time with Ronnie over the years. I met him in 1976 when he was with Rainbow. I saw him every time he came around the area and he always had time to talk to me. He was a great singer and a great person - I will miss him very much.

First off, thank you SO much to The Dirty Knobs and Nathan Fawley of Duesenberg Guitars USA for this wonderful night of music! Words tend to be hard for me to describe this show. How about f&%king awesome? I've been very fortunate to attend this special show for the last 3 years. Each year just raises the bar for the next. I'm very sorry that I did not catch the name of the opening band. They were The Band is Katie Lawerance Band and they were fantastic! They jammed out and played some great tunes! Their singer was just amazing, not only could she sing but she played this very unique electric fiddle. Some tunes I remember ranged from Aretha's Chain of Fools with Peter Stroud on stage joining them, The Motel's Only The Lonely and I know it's a Melissa Etheridge song, but for the life of me, I can't think of the title. They had great energy and set the atmosphere up for the next band. Then the Dirty Knobs (with Phil Jones on board) take the stage! Playing balls out, old tunes and new ones. At one point they had David Rawlings come out and join them on stage, then Marc Ford and also Peter Stroud. One special guest that joined them on stage for a rousing Bride of Frankenstein, was Mr. Darian Campbell himself. Then they had 6 guitars players, one mean ass bass and drummer, and also a percussionist on the stage, just imagine what this sounded like! Especially on a number like Neil Young's Powderfinger. WOW! Some great tunes - I don't have a setlist in front of me, so I know I will miss some songs, but I'm sure others will fill the blanks. Bride of Frankenstein, Powderfinger, Senor, Like A Hurricaine, Minimum Wage, If You Got To Go, Working Class Hero, Hey Bulldog, You Got To Hide Your Love Away, Humdinger, London, Loaded Gun, and a very special favorite, Battleship Chains. Also, Don't Wait Up For The Shrimp Boat, and Reelin' and a Rockin'. Something very special happens when the Knobs play this party. Very cool thing they did, was auction off a stage banner for money for CHOC, Children's Hospital of Orange County. Hope that gentleman who won has a place to hang it! It was big. I had way too much fun, lol. I have no voice today, haha. I hope everyone who went had as much fun as I did. Thank you all for being there. Nothing like a great venue, great friends (old and new) and awesome music!

June 5, 2008 Charlie knew Diddley Well, more like Charlie McGimsey knew what it was like to play with Bo Diddley, the rock 'n' roll pioneer who passed away Monday. The local drummer played back-up for Diddley at a gig at Folsom's Powerhouse Pub. You see, Diddley didn't usually play with a touring band in his later years. To cut costs while on the road, Diddley would hire local musicians for one-off shows. They tended to feel like "by the seat of your pants" gigs for the musicians, but it was still a doozy to play with a living rock 'n' roll legend like Diddley. Here's McGimsey's story about playing with Diddley: "In January 2004 I was playing in the Sunday night jam band, Probable Cause, at the Powerhouse Pub. Bo Diddley was booked to play on Jan. 4, and we were asked to be Bo's backup band for the gig. We didn't have enough time to practice with him, so we decided to learn some of his well-known songs such as "Mona," "Can't Judge a Book by its Cover," and "Who Do You Love." Friday afternoon Bo showed up and opened a guitar case - and there it was - the famous square guitar. We set up and played the first set, then Bo came back at 8 p.m. to start his show. He played from 8 p.m. 'til 10:45 p.m. straight through with no breaks. He just called out the songs and we had to follow along. Being a drummer, it was much easier than a guitar player. I didn't need to know the chords to the songs, just the beats. The only thing he said to me all night was when he turned around and said, "Four on the floor," which means (in drum language) quarter-notes on the bass drum. It was a wonderful experience for me - he was very nice and I was very tired. It was the longest set I've ever played without a break. It was an honor to play with him. I will never for get that night."

I would like to thank Rich Mangicaro and the staff at Paiste Cymbals for everything, and a special thanks to Andrew Shreve for helping me pick out a custom set of cymbals.  Ever since I purchased my first set of Paiste Cymbals in 1975, I believed that the quality and workmanship of Paiste Cymbals is unsurpassed.  That is the reason I have continued to endorse Paiste Cymbals through out the years.

With one day's notice, I was asked to play with The Shane Tiller Band and open for a sold out Lynyrd Skynyrd show at the Dixon May Fair on May 6th. We performed five songs and got very positive feedback from the crowd. Shane is 10 yrs. old, and already an amazing guitar player for his age. After the show I was asked to join the band. I'm looking forward to performing with Shane and the other musicians, Tim Barnes from Stoneground and Dave Chanell from the Fryed Brothers Band.

I would like to thank John Good, Garrison, Steve Vega and the staff at DW Drums for making two custom drum sets for me. One is Crossfire Curly Maple with a sunburst design, and the other is a Sparkle Green "Jon Bonham" set. Both sets sound and look awesome. Ever since I purchased my first set of DW drums in 1991, I have believed that there is no comparison to the quality and workmanship of DW. That belief is the reason I have continued to endorse DW through the years as the #1 drum manufacturer. Happy Holidays to all of you.

THEBEAUTYKINGS would like to thank Harry Bidasha for a wonderful weekend. He worked very hard on the event "Music From Heart 2004" at River Park, Live Oak, CA. All the proceeds from this annual event go to the local Yuba-Sutter hub area high school music programs. Harry also presented Vinnie Pantaloni & Waylen Carpenter, members of THEBEAUTYKINGS (former members of Steel Breeze), with commemorative plaques thanking them for their hard work & dedication to this event in past years.

We had a great time at the Icehouse "Rockin' the Sierras" Benefit on Saturday, August 21. THEBEAUTYKINGS played a great set. Then Steel Breeze came on and played most of their first album hits - the band sounded great with all of the original members, including Ric Jacobs, Waylin Carpenter, George & Kenny Garabian, Vinnie Pantaleoni, Charlie McGimsey, Curtis Hilliar and Rod Toner. Rod finished the set with his version of "Gloria" and the crowd loved it. I want to thank everyone who came out and enjoyed the show.

I had the opportunity to play with The Mark Vigil Project band in Eureka on Sunday, August 1, to open for Edgar Winter and Loverboy. The Mark Vigil Project sounded awesome - we played all the songs from the new CD. Then Edgar Winter performed and really got things rockin'. His 4-piece band was simply amazing. Tony Pia, drummer for Edgar Winter, used my new D.W. drums and hardware, and raved about the quality and sound. Loverboy performed all their hits of the 80's and some new tunes, and proved they're still going strong after all these years. It was truly a memorable concert for everyone.

If you missed Bo Diddley's performance at the Powerhouse Pub in Folsom, CA. on Jan. 4th Sunday evening, you missed a memorable show. The show was completely sold out. Bo played for approximately 2-1/2 hours with Probable Cause as his backup band. The evening also included a presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award to Bo by Mick Martin (Mick Martin & the Blues Rockers) from the Sacramento Blues Society. Mick Martin also joined in with maracas and sang with Bo on "Who Do You Love". It was a night I will never forget.

On Saturday, December 13th, at Borders in Reno, local authors Cindy Coverdale and Margie Lapanja signed copies of their Rockin' Cookbook, "Food That Rocks" - Recipes from the Hottest Kitchens in Music. David Coverdale of Whitesnake, "Rock Jock" Max Volume of KOZZ Radio, and Charlie McGimsey, former drummer for Stoneground and Steel Breeze, stopped by to sign their recipe pages. It was a wonderful turnout and everyone had a great time. Thanks to everyone who attended the book signing.
